History

On June 1, 1989, Steven Solyom went into a store on Curé-Labelle Blvd. in Laval with the intent to commit robbery. He planned to steal the money that a 65 year old merchant kept on him to cash the social assistance cheques of his customers.

He asked the merchant to give him the money. The merchant tried to flee and Steven Solyom shot him in the back of the head. He then fled to the United States with $1,500.

It was not until 1992 that information made it possible to track down and arrest Steven Solyom. He pleaded guilty to one charge of second-degree murder and was sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole for 12 years.

However, in January 2004, Steven Solyom escaped from the Montée Saint-François Detention Centre in Laval, where he was serving his sentence. He has been All Point Bulletinsince then for escape from lawful custody.

Solyom is considered a violent and dangerous individual. At the time of the murder, he had a serious cocaine abuse problem.
